I read something on my off day that has changed my mindset on giving compliment. My old perception on giving compliments was, don't do it because people will take advantage of you, so others also told me. But what I read was totally contrary of what I thought of it. I would like to share it with you here.
Find a wonderful thing about your secretary, or person who helps you, and tell them.
It is easy to find faults with our helpers. Our mind often gravitates to what is wrong with a situation. We must stop and consciously turn this attitude around. Some are afraid that if they compliment someone for working well, that person will ask for a raise, make other demands, or gain leverage. The opposite is true. The person will be more devoted, and enjoy doing his or her work more.
List three things that are wonderful about your secretary or some other person who helps you at work. Some examples could be that he or she always comes to work on time, is sensitive to your needs, stays later when needed, and make that extra effort. Make a habit of saying at least one positive thing once a week. You might enjoy this so much, you'll tell them once a day. Watch how their work improves! Watch how much you enjoy doing this, too.
